​​​​​​​Governors - What we do

A governing board and its governors must, as required by https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/1624/regulation/6/made:

• act with integrity, objectivity and honesty and in the best interests of the school
• be open about the decisions they make and the actions they take and shall be prepared to explain their decisions and actions to interested parties

The governing board also has legislative responsibility and strategic oversight for the school's safeguarding arrangements.

The core functions of the governing board are as set out in (regulation 6) and include, but are not limited to ensuring:

• that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school are clearly defined
• that the Executive Headteacher and Heads of School perform their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school
• the sound, proper and effective use of the school's financial resources

 As Governors of St Mildred's & Bromstone together with the Headteacher we make important decisions on how the schools are run.  We are here to ensure that every child in the schools achieve the best possible outcome during their time in our schools.

We make decisions on policy and strategy for the schools and are accountable to parents and carers as well as the wider community and Ofsted.

The Governing Board:

• Sets strategic direction, objectives, targets and policies
• Reviews and approves the school budget
• Reviews progress against the budget, plans and targets
• Supports and challenges school leadership

The full Governing Board meets 5 times per year and we have two committees that also meet 3 times a year.  These committees are Quality of Education and Leadership & Management.  The Leadership & Management committee has responsibility for oversight of the financial management of the school as well as the staffing structure and personnel issues.

As well as the meetings, the governors will visit the school throughout the year to gather data to assess the results of improvements which have been implemented or to look at specific subjects or areas of school life.
