Helping Your Child at Home
Helping Your Child at Home
Vital to your child’s learning is the support they get at home and many parents ask us how they can help!
Home Learning
In Year R each child has a Love to Learn book. They are given a choice of activities to do over the term in them as well as adding in any special things they might do at home.
In Year 1 and 2 each child has a Home Learning Journal. Each term a list of activities related to the topic is added into the book, which we hope you will find fun and something you can do together. Children are expected to complete a minimum of three of these activities each term. Children are also free to use their Home Learning Journals for any other home learning they wish to do such as writing about their weekend, practising number facts or spelling etc. We love seeing all the things the children produce at home and these are shared in class regularly.
Spelling
Children in Year 1 and 2 are given a list of spellings to learn each week. These are not tested formally in school but instead teachers will look to see how these spellings are being applied to their written work. Please see our spelling letter below for a list of ideas to practise spelling in different ways.
We have some handy guides below to help with reading, writing and maths which are full of handy tips and advice when it comes to supporting your child in these areas at home.
